Founded more than 70 years ago, the SJSU School of Journalism and Mass Communications is the largest of its kind in Northern California. We offer undergraduate degrees in advertising, journalism and public relations, as well as specialized sequences in reporting/editing, photojournalism, magazine journalism and broadcast journalism. Our graduate program also offers a Master's in Mass Communications.
The key element connecting these disciplines is that they all require the ability to express yourself clearly, through words, images, audio, video and other means. These skills—communication skills—are the single most valuable commodity a job applicant can have in today's world. And there's no better place to learn and polish these skills than the SJSU School of Journalism & Mass Communications.
Our program does far more than just train students to write news stories or press releases. Our graduates thrive in fields from the Web to advertising to the news media to public relations to music videos to all manner of corporate positions. They've won every major award offered in their fields, including six Pulitzer Prizes. We're also one of only seven Journalism/Mass Communications programs in the state of California currently accredited by ACEJMC, which means our students have access to scholarships, internships, competitive prizes and other activities not available in non–accredited programs. We are also located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the high-tech capital of the world.
The school is located in historic Dwight Bentel Hall in the center of the SJSU campus, near Tower Hall, Clark Library and the Student Union.
