Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma invites entries for Dart Awards
The awards recognize exemplary journalism on the impact of violence, crime, disaster, and other traumatic events on individuals, families, and communities. Entries should focus on the experience of victims and survivors and should contribute to public understanding of trauma-related issues.
The awards honor North American newspaper, magazine, online, radio, television, video, and multimedia journalism that goes beyond the ordinary in reporting on trauma. Entries may include breaking news, enterprise reporting, single stories, packages of coverage on a single event, cohesive series, local, regional or national television coverage, long-form documentary, and online multimedia packages. Standalone, individual blogs are not eligible. The competition is open to all news media outlets in North America and U.S. territories. All entries must have been published between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2010. The awards are team prizes, reflecting all the elements shaping an entry and contributing to its strength. Entries will be judged as a total package.
Up to four awards of $5,000 will be given to the winning teams to be divided among those who contributed to the winning entry. Team members entitled to share in the prize include reporters, photographers, copy editors, graphic artists, and editors who acted as team leaders as well as any other staff members who assisted in the creation of the entry and are listed on the application form. Visit the Dart Center Web site for complete award program guidelines.
