Professor of public relations and immediate past director
of the School of Journalism & Mass Communications.

Author of six books. Current titles include Public
Relations Strategies & Tactics, 8th edition
(Allyn & Bacon), which is used as an introductory
text in more than 300 colleges and universities, and
Public Relations Writing & Media Techniques,
5th edition (Allyn & Bacon), which is used in more
than 135 educational institutions. Also co-author of
Essentials of Public Relations. A new book,
Public Relations: Managing Conflict and Competition,
will be published in mid-2007.

Editorial board, Journal of Public Relations Research
and the Public Relations Review. Former national
board member of the Public Relations Society of America
(PRSA) and a inducted member of the College of Fellows.
Active in the International Public Relations Association
(IPRA), the Arthur W. Page Society (senior communication
executives) and the Association for Education in Journalism
& Mass Communications (AEJMC). Former chair of the
PRSA educator’s academy and the AEJMC public relations
division.

In 2000, he was named one of the top ten public relations
educators in the country by PRWeek. In 2006, he was
awarded the Xifra-Heras International Award by the University
of Girona in Spain for outstanding contributions to
public relations education. Currently appointed “honorary”
adjunct professor at the University of Queensland (2006-2008).

Fulbright professor at the University of Botswana (1994-95).
Past visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University (Thailand),
Rhodes University (South Africa) and Queensland University
of Technology (Australia). Former USIA professional-in-residence
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Estonia. Dr. Wilcox
has given workshops on public relations in such diverse
nations as Lativa, Mauritius, Romania, Australia, Singapore,
Thailand, Spain, and Argentina. In 2005, he was the keynote
speaker for the Congress of Latin America Public Relations
Professionals in Valparaiso, Chile. Long active in international
education, he conducted two summer short-courses for SJSU
students in Bangkok, and has also served on the national
selection committee for Muskie Fellows in journalism from
Russia and the former republics. In summer 2006, he was
a University “fellow” at the Salzburg Seminar
in Austria. National selection committee for Muskie Fellows/Freedom
Support Act, which is a U.S. government program to bring
young professionals from the nations of the former Soviet
Union to the United States for graduate study in journalism
and mass communications.
